Sumitomo Chemical has announced that it plans to strengthen its business operations in the Latin American region with the commencement of full-scale operations of its group company Sumitomo Chemical Chile S.A (SC Chile) in Santiago, Chile.
Previously, Sumitomo’s Health & Crop Sciences supply chain operations, including logistics controls, credit management and working capital management, in the Latin America region (excluding Mexico and Brazil) were operated through the company’s Tokyo headquarters and its US subsidiary, Valent BioSciences (VBC). Following a recent increase in demand for crop protection products and the feed additive methionine in the region, the company has made the decision to reorganise VBC Chile, previously VBC’s local sales subsidiary for crop protection products, into SC Chile and has consolidated supply chain operations that were handled by VBC and the Tokyo headquarters. These changes are expected to improve customer service and sales expansion in the region, where the company expects further growth. Sumitomo Chemical Brasil will continue to operate as the regional headquarters for the company’s Health & Crop Sciences business.
